Pacific Computers Delivers AV Solutions Across University of Birmingham’s New Dubai Campus

Over a 6 month period, Pacific Computers Ltd supplied and installed audio-visual equipment across the entirety of University of Birmingham’s new Dubai campus.

Having been invited to tender for the project in late 2020, Pacific Computers’ audio-visual expertise gave the University confidence that the project would be completed to a professional standard. This complex requirement called for extensive delivery of audio-visual solutions in a wide range of spaces, predominantly comprising teaching rooms, meeting rooms, wet/dry labs and e-labs, as well as a 250-seat lecture theatre.

Pacific Computers’ audio-visual expertise gave the University confidence that the project would be completed to a professional standard.

In order to ensure smooth running of this overseas project, it was essential for Pacific Computers to team up with an integrator. With three different companies interviewed for potential collaboration, Aesthetix Technologies were chosen as a key project partner to undertake the maintenance, servicing, installation and programming of equipment. In addition, Visualization assisted on a national level, building racks within the UK and then shipping them to the Dubai campus as arranged by Pacific.

A close working relationship proved to be a crucial element of the project’s success and Pacific account manager Steve Wilkes maintained constant contact with the University of Birmingham Dubai’s estates team throughout. With the system designed in-house by the University of Birmingham UK, it was paramount that the project encompassed the best and most suitable technology for the University’s needs. As a result, Extron switching and controls were used (including an early Extron NAV System), along with Wolfvision visualisers, Sennheiser microphones and Panasonic displays and projectors. Meanwhile, Crestron was used for all meeting rooms and Top Tec for the lecterns.

Having received the purchase order in March 2021, a vast majority of the installation work was completed by September 2021. This has since led to an ongoing relationship between the University and Pacific, with the latter going on to carry out audio-visual supply and installation within additional rooms that were not included within the original tender.

A close working relationship proved to be a crucial element of the project’s success.
