Popular Thames River Cruise boat receives an anticipated audio upgrade courtesy of Pacific.

Lastminute.com London Eye had a requirement to replace the worn and failing audio solution onboard one of their Thames River Cruisers, the Silver Bonito. The current audio system required updating after numerous years on the water and providing audio content to hundreds of thousands of passengers.

Due to the popularity of the Silver Bonito, Pacific were able to facilitate the installation work outside of normal operating hours.

The London Eye had particular requirements for the new audio solution, including IP-rated speakers, with 8 Ohms resistance, 6.5” in diameter and a custom mounting solution. Working with our trusted suppliers, Pacific were able to propose speakers that would meet the requirements of the London Eye. These were from German brand, Pan Acoustic.

Once the speakers had been approved, Pacific quickly began design on a custom, IP-rated surround on which the speakers would be mounted, using our in-house design team. Due to the nature of the installation and the environment in which the speakers would be operating, Pacific included a steel mesh over the speaker grille, to reduce the risk of damage to one of the most sensitive areas of the speakers. Once the custom surrounds had been signed off, they were manufactured and finished in a matt white powder coat, ensuring these vital pieces of the audio solution remained as unobtrusive to the Silver Bonito’s passengers as possible.

A new control PC which was configured in-house by our support team, with QSC’s Q-SYS control software installed to complete the new audio solution.

Due to the popularity of the Silver Bonito, Pacific were able to facilitate the installation work outside of normal operating hours. This meant that the installation team were instructed to begin work at 22:00 and worked through the night to deliver the project.
