Windows 10 End of Life – Will Your AV Be Left Vulnerable?

Businesses with legacy AV hardware may be left vulnerable to security threats when Microsoft ceases support for Windows 10 in October 2025.

IT departments have been working to remove Windows 10 from their systems and get everyone upgraded for some years, and are now in the final stretch of the last few systems that couldn’t be upgraded in these last months. But there are Microsoft Teams Rooms systems from pre-2021 installed in meeting rooms that cannot be upgraded to Windows 11, and these might not have been noticed – especially since 2020 saw a large uptake in Teams. Unsupported hardware will no longer benefit from security updates, meaning that many businesses could be left with chinks in their security that could leave them vulnerable to cyber attacks, data breaches and unforeseen hardware failures.

Preparation is Key:

To keep your business’s AV secure and reliable, preparation is essential prior to the 14th October deadline. Now is a great time to audit and review your AV systems to establish what is still running on Windows 10, what can be upgraded to Windows 11 and whether any hardware upgrades are required in the interim.

Prevention is always better than a cure, and with the rate of cyber attacks – as well as the devastation they cause – increasing every day, the security concerns presented by unsupported systems and hardware are simply not worth the risk. Your entire infrastructure is only ever as strong as your weakest system – cybercriminals are skilled in gaining access through any means necessary, and unsupported equipment is a dream come true for these kinds of unscrupulous organisations and individuals.  Therefore, it’s essential that businesses act sooner rather than later to tackle this challenge head-on, as assessing current systems for compatibility with Windows 11 – not to mention performing the upgrade and replacing any legacy hardware as needed – can be a complex process.
